The
Independent Living Center of Kern County (ILCKC) is a consumer-based, consumer-directed
non-profit agency assisting persons with disabilities to live independently
in their community. The ILCKC presently offers a wide range of services to a
growing population of persons with disabilities. These services are designed
to educate the community on disability issues as we provide persons with disabilities
with the information, support and opportunity to grow creatively, professionally,
and personally. ILCKC empowers people by assisting people in developing options,
making informed choices and controlling their own lives. As the individuals
with disabilities come into the Center, they observe their peer consumers, employees,
board members and administration – all people with disabilities –
as they manage the specific aspects of their lives. The staff and Board operate
under the firm belief that all people have individual value and are entitled
to full inclusion in all aspects of society.
